The petition filed by Nalini Sriharan, who was convicted in the murder of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, was abused by the Madras High Court. A bench comprising Justices KK Sasidharan and Justice R. Subramaniyan rejected her petition. The bench also made it clear that it is already in the Supreme Court to intervene. She is in jail for almost 25 years. The Tamil Nadu government has set up a scheme to release prisoners who have been imprisoned for more than 20 years. Nalini filed a petition seeking release of his earlier release.
MADRAS HIGH COURT REJECT THE NALINI'S PRELIMINARY PETITION
The Tamil Nadu government has decided to release her. But the Center has resorted to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has issued interim orders on Tamil Nadu decision. Currently the case is pending in the Supreme Court. The seven prisoners including Murugan, Perarivalan and Santhan, along with Nalini in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, have been sentenced to life imprisonment in Vellore Central Jail.
